An eco-friendly cottage in the heart of History

  • The old Bouchardes factory
  • The Bouchardes factory today

In 2001 we bought this old mill in the family for many generations. At first we renovated the first floor in order to create our own home. At this time we had on purpose to create a holiday cottage at the ground-floor but we were afraid about the big work to do. Then in 2010 we finally decided to begin our project which has been finished in April 2011.

Renovated the building: a global study

Everybody likes his Home sweet home and we would like it more if it was more comfortable but less expensive in energy. Renovating his home must be done in a logical way. First we have to ask the good questions, think about the knowledge of our house and its functioning. In this way we have to think about our habits and we have to differentiate which are too much expensive and which are more economic: in this case, we speak about "the sobriety". We have been so used to have easy energy because so plentiful that now we have to learn a new way of life because of the dangerous decreasing of fossil fuel. That's why Cédric Gireau has made the choice to create an eco-friendly cottage instead of a "normal" one.

Why the « Gîte des Bouchardes »?

Medal of Guillet Company

The cottage pays tribute to the stone tools named « bouchardes »…La boucharde has been invented by Guillet, manufacturer of stone tools for 365 years! Based in Villebois (Ain), famous place of quarries, Guillet Company is THE specialist of professional tools for building and stone industry.

Created in 1643, the company still perpetuates the manufacturing of exceptional tools for the stone work. In 1890, the factory began to work with the water force and installed itself in the "Moulin Vessin". In 1965, the factory moved to the actual site in Villebois.
